Information you provide: We collect information you voluntarily provide when you create an account, including your email address, username, and any feedback or reports you submit.

Location information:With your permission, we collect your device's GPS location to show nearby parking lots and to validate parking reports. Location data is used only while the app is in use and is not stored permanently on our servers.

Usage data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with the app, including parking reports submitted, lots viewed, and features used.

Device information: We may collect your device type, operating system, and push notification token to deliver app notifications.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the BeachSpot service
• Show you nearby parking availability
• Award XP, badges, and leaderboard rankings
• Send push notifications about lot approvals and updates
• Process parking lot owner subscriptions
• Respond to your feedback and support requests
• Detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
• Comply with legal obligations

Information sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with:

Service providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the app, including Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), and Expo (push notifications). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.

Lot owners: If you submit a parking report, the status may be visible to lot owners. Your personal identity is never shared.

Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

Data retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

Push notifications

With your permission, we send push notifications for lot approval updates and activity alerts. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings or within the BeachSpot app under Settings.

Location data

Location access is required to show parking near you and validate reports. We request foreground location only — we do not track your location in the background. You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.

Children's privacy

BeachSpot is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and secure authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
